Corian Benchtops in Gascoigne 1890s Federation Home

Gascoigne is a renovation and extension to an 1890s Federation house in the Gascoigne Estate, Malvern East.

The brief called for the renovation of the original house and a ground floor extension to include an open plan kitchen, dining and living space connected to a landscaped garden.
Drawing reference from the original federation features in the house, the material palette is one of muted warm tones inspired by the dusty colours of Australian native flora.

Corian® was selected for its practical and durable nature, and for its ability to create a seamless surface that could be moulded into a three-dimensional form. Corian® ‘dove’ and ‘pearl grey’ were specified throughout the house, in the kitchen, pantry, and bathroom.

The kitchen bench is unique in its scale and form. The sides are formed from fluted Corian®, moulded to meet the radius of the benchtop to provide a beautiful textured surface. The benchtop was partially constructed off site and joined on site by the fabricator.

“All good things take time to design, document and construct! Working closely with the builder and fabricator we tailored the construction detail to suit the fabricators tools, to ensure the perfect setout and finish for the benchtop. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the final product and finish. The Corian® benchtops provide wonderful worksurfaces and the finish is both practical and beautiful. Corian® was the perfect material to meet the design intent and our clients are thrilled with the outcome.” Lucy Clemenger
