BCM Reception

The design concept responded to a brief to illustrate the construction capabilities of BCM by exemplifying capability, craft and professionalism. The elegant design pushes the boundaries of the construction and build‐ability of form, while employing a refined material and patterning language to unify the project, inside and out.

The building primarily had to function as an office and warehouse and, importantly, enable staff to enjoy working there; the approach from Crosier Scott Architects, was to carefully negotiate the client’s aspirations while ensuring they created a refined architecture. Care was taken not to overplay the intent, hence the need to use materials that were flexible in form however practical in use.

Corian® attested to be the most suitable material for this project because of its seamless design ability and opportunity to create the desired sculptured form. Upon entry into the building, the reception desk resembles a ‘piece of furniture’ and compliments the design pattern language to unify the project both inside and out, paying tribute to the external façade.

“The word ‘statement’ was at the forefront of our minds when designing the foyer to impress visitors. The Corian® joinery elements including the front counter achieves just that, with a 3.5m long reception bench with the same angular striations that appear in the building’s façade”. Alan Cubbon, Director, Crosier Scott Architects.
