CASF congratulates Daniel Dalla Riva of Exponential Design on creating the winning design for the Corian^® Design Awards – Commercial Category in the Reecedesign showroom, Surry Hills, Sydney. Daniel used Corian^® extensively in service counters, sink, basin, and tap displays, and a special featured ten metre long illuminated Cherry Blossom wall.

The showroom location revealed a terrific blank canvas that sparked Daniel’s ideas to answer the clients brief. A mezzanine level running parallel with a void along the glazed facade was an instant inspiration – Daniel felt he had to cantilever a feature bathroom in this space.

Daniel created an amazing illuminated wall from Corian^®. This installation utilises twelve panels of Corian^® to create a blank canvas, which springs to life with a printed Cherry Blossom motif and rear illumination. The motif brings harmony to the minimalist retail environment. Countless hours of research, development and prototyping were undertaken in collaboration with Expo Solutions Group and Funnel Design to achieve the desired result, including test printing, CNC routing, coloured infills, and backlighting. “A balance of form and function, the illuminated cherry blossom wall in Corian^® fuses art, architecture and technology in the retail and commercial environment” says Daniel.

The extensive use of Corian^® throughout the showroom creates a visual and tactile appeal. It explores the unconventional interior architecture applications, prompting a truly innovative design approach and solution.

The mezzanine level features a working tap display made from Corian^® Glacier White, working shower display, accessory and tap display, baths, a Corian^® service counter in Glacier White, admin area, boardroom and office. The surroundings of black polished stone floors, black mirrors with black walls and ceilings gives the notion of a seductive and opulent cantilevered bathroom that offers one of the great vantage points in the showroom. The concept demonstrates the bathroom is now, more than ever, an important personal space.

Daniel has successfully negotiated the complexities of minimalism, the showroom features inspiring architectural elements, functional displays, sophisticated materials and finishes, beautiful product, and a series of unique installations to create a destination for architects, interior designers, their clients and those looking for stylish bathroom products. “Corian^® is utilised to it’s full potential to create seamless joinery and display elements that are minimalist and pure in form”, says Daniel.
