Zero Silica since 1967

Corian® Solid Surface has contained zero crystalline silica since it was first developed in 1967 — decades before silica exposure became a national safety issue in Australia. It was never part of the products Australia’s engineered stone ban was designed to address.

The Zero Silica Difference

Zero Silica Since 1967

Made from natural minerals and acrylic resin — not quartz. No reduced amount, none at all.

Compliant With the 2024 Ban

Australia’s engineered stone ban targets crystalline silica above the Safe Work Australia threshold. Corian® was never part of that category.

Safe to Fabricate

No silica dust means no requirement for wet-cutting, extraction or RPE controls mandated for silica-containing materials.

Safe Across Its Lifecycle

Installation, on-site joining, repair, renovation and removal all generate no silica dust — for as long as the benchtop is in use.

Certified Beyond Silica

GREENGUARD Gold certified, independently certified Red List Free, carries a Declare Label, low VOC emissions.

Used Where Safety Matters Most

Kitchens, healthcare facilities, aged care, education, public bathrooms, multi-residential buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions

It means Corian® contains no crystalline silica at all — not a reduced or compliant trace amount, none. It’s made from a formulation of natural minerals with an acrylic resin binder, which is a fundamentally different composition to quartz-based engineered stone.

No. The ban applies to engineered stone products containing crystalline silica above the threshold set by Safe Work Australia. Corian® was never part of that product category, so the ban doesn’t change anything about how it’s specified, fabricated or installed.

No. This is a common misconception. Corian® has been silica-free since its invention in 1967 — this isn’t a reformulation in response to the 2024 ban, unlike some newer alternatives that entered the market after the ban was introduced.

Because Corian® contains no crystalline silica, standard solid surface fabrication methods can be used without the wet-cutting, on-tool extraction or RPE controls mandated for silica-containing materials.

No — installation, on-site joining, repairs, renovation and eventual removal all generate no silica dust either, for as long as the benchtop is in use.

Corian® carries GREENGUARD Gold certification, is independently certified as Red List Free, carries a Declare Label, and has low VOC emissions.
