Overview

This boutique neurosurgical consulting suite was envisioned not simply as a medical facility but as a carefully curated space reflecting refinement and care. While the suite serves a leading neurosurgeon, it was the client’s partner who took the lead on articulating a clear and ambitious design direction, focused on elevating both the patient experience and spatial identity. The brief challenged convention, calling for a space that felt more like a luxury lounge than a clinical setting.

The Brief

The client’s clear articulation of the project vision called for a spacious, welcoming environment for both staff and patients — one where the reception experience would set the tone for the entire suite. That meant a reception desk that could act as a striking centrepiece: a design capable of bold angular forms and sweeping curves, with illuminated cut-out detailing that added visual intrigue without compromising a clean, seamless finish.

Material Specification

Corian® in Bisque was specified for the reception desk, the centrepiece of the consulting suite’s arrival experience. The design combines angular forms with sweeping curves and a sharp cut-out detail, reminiscent of an abstract origami fold. Illuminated cut-out sections required a custom backing to conceal internal lighting components, achieving a soft, diffused glow while preserving the seamless aesthetic Corian® is known for.

Design Outcome

The finished reception desk stands as a functional centrepiece within a larger spatial choreography — framed by a dramatic backlit wall and sculptural lighting overhead, and interacting with every surrounding element while anchoring the room in elegance. Corian®’s workability made it possible to achieve the precise, seamless shapes envisioned for the cut-out sections, while its adaptability and flawless finish delivered both functionality and visual impact for the countertop.
