Hutton Avenue – Residential Kitchen

The Brief

Hutton Avenue is a new build in Bulli, New South Wales, designed by Rachael Miklas Design and Detail. The project was guided by a single principle: simplicity making a statement — delivering a calm, contemporary space that balances form and function without sacrificing visual impact. The kitchen was central to realising that vision.

Material Specification

Corian® Solid Surface in Designer White was selected for the kitchen island benchtop.

The island extends over four metres, making it the natural focal point of the space. Avoiding visible joins was non-negotiable — the intention was for the island to read as a single, monolithic piece of furniture, with refinement expressed through subtle detailing rather than complexity. A 20mm pronounced lip around the perimeter reinforces this idea, framing the surface like a border and elevating the island beyond pure function — allowing whatever is placed upon it to be presented with a quiet sense of emphasis, like objects curated within a gallery setting.

Design Outcome

The Corian® benchtop surface gives the island its seamless, uninterrupted finish across the top — a calm, sculptural presence that organises the entire kitchen. At this scale, the island becomes more than a functional workspace, turning everyday utility into a statement that balances durability with understated luxury.

Why Corian® Works for Similar Projects

This project is a compelling example of Corian® used with deliberate restraint. Where a kitchen of this scale and prominence might typically call for a bold, highly figured material, the opposite approach was taken — selecting Corian® in its simplest, most refined form. The result is a quieter kind of statement: one that feels more architectural than decorative, where seamless construction and carefully considered detailing carry the visual weight. For specifiers working on residential projects where simplicity and precision are the design language, Corian® offers the ability to execute that vision without compromise.

This project reinforces that material selection and fabricator expertise are foundational to outcome quality. If you’re working on a project where Corian® is doing something exceptional, the Corian® Design Awards exist to recognise exactly this level of ambition. Enter at casf.com.au/corian-design-awards/
