Clam Shell Kitchen

John Cunningham of Danish Kitchens has created a bright, crisp and clean kitchen space with a mixture of materials including Corian®. The job objective for this project was focused on ‘innovation’. The client had purchased the latest in technology from Miele including a steamer oven, induction hotplates and a state of the art three door refrigerator. The kitchen had to be designed using appropriate materials that complimented the high quality appliances.

The home is a waterfront property with expansive gardens, which are visible through several large windows around the kitchen – so the design had to be fresh and clean to emphasise these views. “Corian® in colour Clam Shell was the obvious choice”, John says. “Because of the length and configuration of the island bench using other materials would have required unsightly joins.

Corian® provided a wide long bench space with no open joins, making it look like it was made by one single piece. The client also fell in love with Corian® when she saw the quality of the product on display in our showroom”, he adds.

The drop down edge over and around the dishwasher allowed the appliance to be fully integrated seamlessly under the benchtop, so that the kitchen space came together hygienically and practically. A mixture of other materials such as a glass splashback and stainless steel also adds a touch of elegance to this bright and airy space. “As a designer there was no other product that I could have used in this situation that would have looked this good”, says John.
