When the team at Transport Mutual Credit Union in Surry Hills, NSW asked Design Gallery to give their head office a revamp, the challenge was on. With a request for a modern timber-heavy aesthetic and the need for durable surfaces, CASF Timber was the only option. Binging together the best elements of design, CASF Timber provided the foundation for this innovative office redesign project.
The project
The team at Design Gallery in Burpengary was tasked with remodelling the head office of Transport Mutual Credit Union in Surry Hills, NSW. Being a trendy, modern part of town, Transport Mutual wanted to bring their office into the contemporary era with an overhaul that included plenty of timber. One of the key stipulations was to create an open-plan working environment that would maximise collaboration between employees. Naturally, functionality was paramount, but they also wanted to create the right aesthetic for a modern business in a trendy suburb.
Since the working areas are very high-use in nature, they also wanted surfaces that would be durable and able to withstand daily use. This was particularly important for workstation benches and kitchen benchtops in the staff area. Of course, durability is one thing, but they also wanted surfaces that are easy to keep clean.
CASF Timber
For this project, the team at Design Gallery chose CASF Timber European Oak for both the kitchen benchtops and workstations. CASF Timber is made using 42mm wide staves that are finger-jointed together. This gave the team the flexibility to create custom-sized benchtops with a beautiful timber finish.
Best of all, CASF Timber is extremely easy to clean, thanks to the unique technology used when creating surfaces such as benchtops and workstations. The particular choice of timber, European Oak, was an inspired one, giving the office a fresh, vibrant look full of character.
The reception counter is also made with CASF Timber European Oak, which creates a natural, modern look as soon as clients enter the office. With flooring and wall panels also featuring a timber finish, the look is certainly unique but also very timeless.
An eco-friendly solution
One of the other major concerns for Transport Mutual was the use of eco-friendly materials in their office redesign. Sustainably sourced timber was required, and CASF Timber meets that need. The hardwood used for CASF Timber products is sourced from responsibly managed forests that comply with the highest standards of environmental protection. This means that all the timber comes from forests that are regenerated for the future.
When this project was completed, the joiners from Bentlor Design Joinery were nominated as a finalist in the FIAA Awards for Best Commercial Furniture Award.
