Jungle House

Ultraspace were asked to design a renovation and addition for clients on a remote island off the coast of Queensland as a part of their Island Retreat ‘compound’.

The ‘Jungle House’ is a fun and modern take on a ‘boutique hotel’ concept with a robust industrial jungle theme – with all the ‘suites’ having their own unique illuminated name plaque – each with their own ensuite, etc and a playfully exciting bunk room to sleep 6.

“I wanted all the work surfaces to appear to be concrete to suit the theme and be seamless and robust. Corian^® Ash Concrete did everything I needed it to do. The kitchen island bench has an automated flap that closes downward to allow for the oversized glass sliding doors to move past and be completely concealed away to provide the largest possible openings – so the client feels they are a part of nature. There are also several surface charging points in the bench surface using the ‘UltraCharge’ buttons. The custom designed kitchen sink is integrated and fully seamless.” said Mark Gacesa.

The Powder Room is a fully customised Corian^® waterplane that wraps from the underlit bench level, up the wall, and across to provide an overhead garden, side and overhead lighting, and also has an extended teardrop basin spout to complete the design.

The Main Bathroom has a custom Corian^® double vanity with unique Corian^® semi-recessed basins in a contrast Deep Anthracite finish. The use of backlit black perforated steel inlays in all the cabinetry is pulling together the further use of this industrial product throughout the project in the spiral stair, upper catwalk, custom pivot tv and other uses. The Laundry is the same Ash Concrete with a large seamless custom wash tub and detailing. The back-to-wall Bathtub is encased in an Ash Concrete shroud with a Deep Anthracite shadow detail break between the tub’s hob and the shroud.

An added detail in each of the robes is the use of Corian^® for the luggage shelves in Ash Concrete and domed Deep Anthracite luggage skid rails.
