We are thrilled to announce the Grand Prize Winners of the Corian® Design Awards 2024! These awards recognise the innovative and inspiring work of designers who have creatively utilised Corian® Solid Surface in their projects, setting new benchmarks in both residential and commercial design. Open to Specifiers, Architects, Designers, Students, and Partners, the competition highlights outstanding local talent across Australia.
This year’s Grand Prize is an exclusive trip to Paris Design Week 2025, including return economy flights from any Australian capital city and twin-share accommodation with daily breakfast, offering winners the opportunity to engage with the global design community.
Overall Residential Winner: La Casa Curvilínea
THE PROJECT
The La Casa Curvilínea is a minimal, modern interpretation of Mediterranean design. This beautiful four-bedroom family home is a symphony of gentle curves, warm hues, and innovative materials, including Corian® Clam Shell and Witch Hazel.
“It is an absolute honour to be awarded the 2024 Residential Corian® Design Award. This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of Doherty Building Group, Newgrove Benchtops, and the SCLK teams, whose dedication and craftsmanship brought this vision to life.” says Teegan Doherty from Doherty Building Group. “The design phase was an intensive and meticulous process, and it’s rewarding to see their [the judges’] remarks acknowledge and reflect the level of detail that went into creating this project.”

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID….
The judges were very impressed with the overall project with most of them noting the design elegance and the innovative use of the Corian Solid Surface material.
Judge Kacey Weber comments, “There is such a timeless elegance to the design of this space”. She says that the use of the Corian® really pushes the material’s potential.
Judge Kirsty Duncan says, “The use of Corian Solid Surface in creating seamlessly integrated “furniture” that blends effortlessly into the overall home design is truly exquisite. Every detail, from the precision routing on the butler’s benchtop to the ledge behind the cooktop, and the thoughtfully designed integrated sinks and washplanes, reflects a carefully considered and elegant design.”
“The innovative use of Corian® in many applications in this project was a stand out amongst the finalists.” Says Judge Mark Saunders. “It shows how versatile the product is and how it can be used for aesthetics and functionality.”
Judge Tania Kloester agrees by saying, “A remarkable example of design excellence, this project showcases an exquisite use of curves and a harmonious balance of materials. The kitchen island and vanity countertop are particularly impressive, highlighting the versatile properties of Corian.” She continues, “The minimalist design masterfully engages select materials to create maximum impact.

Overall Commercial Winner: T2 Heinemann
THE PROJECT
Heinemann Oceania transformed their retail space within Sydney Airport’s T2 and T3 domestic terminals, introducing a department store experience for domestic travellers—a first for Australian travel retail. This project aimed to blend high-end shopping with the bustling airport environment, creating an elegant and functional space for travellers.
A central feature of the retail zone is the custom display cabinets, crafted using Corian® Carrara Crema. Greater Group selected Corian® for its ability to be thermoformed into seamless organic shapes, which aligned with the project’s design ethos. Christopher Smith from the Greater group also acknowledges the hard work and collaboration of the team from S&A Simpson Commercial who flawlessly executed this innovative design.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID….
The judges were wowed by the design and workmanship;
Judge Mark Saunders said, “The customised fluid design has created an aesthetic that draws the eye whilst functionally encouraging the customers to flow through the space easily, thus interacting with the merchandise in a seamless manner.” He continues, “The workmanship in thermoforming the unique designs and meticulously joining each piece to ensure a continuous pattern is fantastic”.
Judge Tania Kloester agrees by saying, “This project is the perfect example of ‘form follows function’ resulting in an impressive design. Organic shapes cleverly invoke interaction and relaxation within this premium retail space, complimented by a neutral yet engaging palette. The technical details of this inspiring design demonstrate the versatile applications of Corian®, showcasing its limitless possibilities. Through careful material selection and exceptional craftsmanship, the project successfully combines low-maintenance, durable functionality with a visually appealing aesthetic.”
