The Pool Party House
This stunning midcentury modern bayside residence located in Brighton East underwent an extensive refurbishment from 2021 to 2023, transforming it into a vibrant and sophisticated space that seamlessly blends the nostalgia of the 20th century with contemporary design elements.
The brainchild of BPDC’s talented designer, Yelena Beylin Perry, the Pool Party House embraces the midcentury spirit with open arms. The project involved demolishing internal walls to create a spacious kitchen zone and open-plan entertaining areas, all overlooking a picturesque cul-de-sac and garden. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Palm Springs aesthetic, the design features vivid colors, brass accents, terrazzo elements, solid timber cladding, and sleek white surfaces, culminating in a bright and summery mid-century atmosphere.
Corian® Glacier White was selected for the kitchen benchtop, boasting a 50mm thick edge profile that harmonizes with the white cabinets. The surface’s durability and integrated sink functionality were key factors in the decision-making process. Such was the confidence in Corian® that the clients requested a bespoke dining table crafted from the same material, adding a cohesive touch to the entire living space.
Preserving the existing character of the residence was paramount, and Corian® played a pivotal role in achieving this goal. The integration of the sink into the worktop reduced visual obstructions, allowing the eye to appreciate other original features like the concrete ceiling and the angular pool. An elliptical dining tabletop, with an angular shark-nose edge, provided a unique blend of old and new materials.
A notable highlight of the Pool Party House project was witnessing the skilled fabricators from TKIC seamlessly combine sheets of Corian® to create a precision-formed L-shaped benchtop. The meticulous craftsmanship showcased during this process added an extra layer of sophistication to the design, making it a true standout.
In a space adorned with a myriad of colours and textures, the crisp white surfaces of Corian® gracefully cut through the retro aesthetic, offering a contemporary sleekness and sensory calm. The project stands as a testament to the versatility and timeless appeal of Corian® in elevating midcentury modern living spaces.
