A new state-of-the-art hair and beauty salon has been introduced in Granville, NSW, featuring a bold, modern design that harmonises light, function, and texture. The salon embraces black as the new white, creating a sophisticated and moody atmosphere that exudes luxury and exclusivity.

The project involved transforming a challenging 40-meter-long property, aiming to create a sense of width and openness despite its narrow dimensions. This was achieved through innovative and strategic design solutions, such as the extensive use of Venetian plaster on both walls and ceiling, which enhanced the aesthetic appeal and contributed to the perception of a more expansive space.

A standout feature of the design is the drop-down circular ceiling element, serving both as a visual centrepiece and a functional component by cleverly concealing air vents and speakers. This choice helps maintain the sleek and uncluttered look of the interior, further enhancing the salon’s modern and luxurious feel.

For the styling benches, the design team at Edge Design Consultants selected Corian® Cosmos Prima, using its reverse side to offer exceptional durability and a distinctive galaxy-like appearance. This material choice fosters a serene and relaxing atmosphere for clients, while the limited palette of four dark-toned materials creates an illusion of space and coherence within the property.

Strategic lighting is crucial in accentuating the textures of the materials used, creating an inviting and visually appealing space that feels more like a day spa than a traditional salon. The careful placement of lights highlights the unique textures and finishes, contributing to a tranquil and luxurious environment.

The project’s success also underscores the importance of skilled installation, particularly when working with specialised materials like Corian®. The durability, practicality, and aesthetic versatility of Corian®, along with the expertise of the installers, ensure the salon maintains its stunning appearance and functionality over time.
