1 ADELAIDE TCE COFFEE KIOSK

The 1 Adelaide Tce – Coffee Kiosk is a sculptural café installation designed as a visual and social centrepiece within a revitalised commercial atrium in Perth’s CBD. Curved, open, and inviting from every angle, the kiosk offers a striking contrast to the surrounding rigid architecture of the office building, encouraging engagement and connection within the shared space. Its soft, flowing form was conceived to create a moment of calm within the busy environment, while also functioning as a fully operational café in a high-traffic area.

The kiosk was designed by Storyline Designs, known for creating spaces with strong narrative foundations and purposeful use of materials. For this project, Corian® was selected as the key surface solution due to its ability to deliver seamless curves, durability, and an elegant, refined finish. Artista Grey [C] was chosen for its soft marbling and subtle movement, bringing depth and visual interest to the sculptural form without distracting from the overall design intent.

The project presented a unique design challenge: as a standalone piece with no traditional back or concealed service area, the kiosk had to be fully resolved from all sides—both aesthetically and functionally. Corian® made this possible through its thermoformable properties and inconspicuous joins, allowing the structure to appear as one continuous form. A custom lighting canopy, mirroring the kiosk’s silhouette, was suspended overhead to further define its presence and enhance its role as a central feature of the atrium.

Close collaboration with the Corian® fabrication team was critical throughout the design and construction process. This partnership ensured the complex geometry could be realised without compromise. A key discovery during the project was how Artista Grey [C] responded to various lighting conditions—its layered tones shifted gently throughout the day, adding a dynamic quality that enhanced the spatial experience.

Now a recognisable feature of the building, the kiosk demonstrates how thoughtful material choices, combined with strong design and collaboration, can transform a functional element into an architectural highlight. It not only serves its practical purpose but also elevates the character of the space—reflecting Storyline Designs’ belief that everyday environments can be enriched through design that tells a story.
