6-Star Green Star Design Rated Project Puts Corian® to Work

The city of Brisbane continues to undergo exciting urban development in the lead-up to hosting the Olympic Games in 2032. As this river city sees new commercial and residential projects emerging to meet the demand of a growing population, 480 Queen Street is one of the city’s most premium office towers.

A recent high-profile tenant is Herbert Smith Freehills, which now occupies the top four levels of the building. Brisbane office Managing Partner Michael Back states that the move is intended to support the firm’s growth in the Brisbane and Asia Pacific markets over the next decade, providing an innovative and connected environment for clients and staff to enjoy.

480 Queen Street was selected by the firm for a multitude of reasons, including its prime position within Brisbane’s golden triangle and the beautiful views of the Brisbane River. Developed and constructed by Grocon in partnership with DEXUS Property Group, the building is host to outstanding amenities, world-class restaurants and cafes, a market-leading commuter centre, and a spectacular rooftop entertaining area.

The building’s other traits? With a 6-star Green Star Design rating and a 5-star NABERS energy rating, it’s now a market leader in sustainability.

Corian® Applications

Corian® takes pride of place in bringing this luxury commercial building to life. Used to create a truly unique staircase centrepiece, the Corian® -clad staircase enjoys a greenwall reveal that spans four floors. Here, Corian® takes centre stage, drawing the eye of visitors and daily users against the lush indoor plant backdrop.

Designed by Hassell with fabrication by Arden Architectural Staircases, the choice of Corian® Colour Cameo White (B) provides a sleek, smooth finish that’s right at home amongst the premium multi-story office tower.

The design impact of the Corian® -clad staircase is noted as a part of the overall building aesthetic by Kerry Heilbronn, Herbert Smith Freehills partner and Chair of the Brisbane Premises Steering Committee.

‘480 Queen Street is a world-class building in so many respects – there is truly nothing like it in Brisbane, and it will be a wonderful place for our staff and clients to work together. Being able to offer our staff an exceptional working environment will help us achieve our aim of attracting and retaining the very best people.
