The brief for this project was to create an architecturally designed and unique family home that was durable but soft, comfortable and reflective of the clients personality. Corian® was chosen for this project as Noela and the team were looking for a product that would create a simplistic and unique surface solution to a practical architectural element.
The uniqueness of this application is in the material selection, a traditional element that that is typically finished in stone or timber was wrapped in Corian® to create a contemporary take on a staircase.
On this project the team incorporated uniquely designed non-slip grooves to the edge of the Corian® tread’s nosing, creating a finish that was simple yet effective.
“When we were developing the design concepts for this project, we knew right away we didn’t want timber. We wanted something that clung to the architecture and folded into the walls, becoming one continuous plane. We knew Corian® would be the product to achieve this.” Said Noela Coffey.
