Community Link, Fiona Stanley Hospital

Cameron Chisholm Nicol were approached by Not For Profit organisation, Connect Groups to design a community link booth to be serviced by their volunteers at Fiona Stanley Hospital. The objective for the Community Link Booth is to connect patients and their carers to community support services, so it was important that the booth promoted an informal and friendly assistance model. Cameron Chisholm Nicol sought inspiration from the geometry and colour tones of the Banksia Melaleuca pine cones endemic to the area. The resultant inverted S-shaped seating bench provides opportunities for multiple conversations between volunteers and the public, whilst a self-help area with iPad devices, an integrated video screen and a stand up counter with integrated secure storage below, completes the booth’s various functions.

“The location of the booth is in a high traffic concourse to the entry of the Hospital, we needed a solid and powerful performing material like Corian, which could withstand its environment. Drawing inspiration from the geometry and colour tones of the Banksia Melaleuca pine cones we needed a versatile material which could be shaped effortlessly. Corian empowered me to create an organic aesthetic and the result is an inviting object for Connect Groups to share and engage with the public.” – Griselda Fernandez

This project commenced as a pro-bono concept design to support Connect Groups’ funding application with Lotterywest for the project.

The scale of the corporate branding to the TV screen has tested various times. The routering machine determined the correct scales, we were fortunate to explore various scales in order to achieve the desired impact.
