One Eleven, Perth

One Eleven has emerged from a 1970s office tower which has been given a long overdue aesthetic and functional upgrade, with little being done to the building since its last major refurbishment in the late 1980s.

The fit-out of the lobby involved blurring the boundaries between ‘lobby’ and external spaces with the point of focus being the lift core. The lift core has been clad in crystalline-shaped panels of edge-lit Corian® in glacier white which take their geometric cues from the existing forms of the high level glazing externally. The tessellated patterning of Corian® to the lift core helps express the volume of the existing lobby space and provides a contrast against the dark timber clad tunnel which provides access to the lifts. Corian® was chosen for the project due to its thermoformable qualities and its ability to be moulded into tessellated panels for the lift core. It was also important that the material selected for the project was suitable for a public space and could be repaired if necessary helping ensure that the interior remained in good condition for years to come.

Corian® was also used as the benchtop of the concierge desk to tie back in with the materiality of the lift core. Corian® also was suitable due to its seamless nature and ability to conceal panel joints. According to Taylor Robinson, “The versatility and practicality of Corian® allowed us to achieve all our aesthetic and functional objectives. A great result.”
