Patient Room 2020

A prototype of NXT Health Patient Room 2020 opened to the public at the DuPont™ Corian^® Design Studio in New York City. Patient Room 2020 is an innovative living laboratory that responds to needs of doctors, nurses, patients and their families by creating safer, more streamlined, integrated and restorative environment.

DuPont^™ Corian^® solid surface was selected as the predominant material used throughout the project because it is nonporous and when properly cleaned, does not support the growth of mould, mildew and bacteria. In addition to DuPont, more than 35 product and service partners contributed to the creation of Patient Room 2020, ranging from lighting design experts and specialty glass manufacturers to custom fabricators. DuPont™ Corian^® Design Studio partners Evans & Paul and Dolan & Traynor are also participating project sponsors.

The 40 square metre prototype leverages a broad collection of technologies that addresses five key aspects of design: the Patient Ribbon, Patient Companion, Open Bathroom, Caregiver Workstation and Caregiver Hub. The room integrates versatile and modular elements, such as the Patient Ribbon—which allows easy access to electrical, technology, and gas components — and the Patient Media Centre, which helps facilitate collaboration between caregivers, patients, and visitors. It also provides connectivity to entertainment, information, and hospital services.
