Battlesticks, Newcastle

Battlesticks Bar at Scratchleys, Newcastle, is perched between Newcastle Harbour and the foreshore making it vulnerable to the wind, salt and sun. With endless banks of open ceiling to floor doors and windows that feature around the room to allow the sea breeze to circulate for natural ventilation, the renovation required material that could withstand the natural elements over a long period of time.

The visual design flexibility and durability, as well as seamless finishes were significant in the specification of DuPont™ Corian® in the Battlesticks Bar project.

The architects, EJE Architecture, specified Corian® because of its lightfast, robust durable properties to withstand the marine environment degradation.

The architectural elements included natural, flowing designs including the curvaceous main bar. Corian® was an ideal material to meet these fluid design factors, and the material was also used for all custom furniture and finishing surface detail throughout the space.

The bar area fills with natural light during the day, giving the space an airy, contemporary spacious feel. Corian® Glacier White and Serene Sage were chosen to blend in with the modern design, reflecting and enhancing the daylight that fills the room.

Durable and easy to maintain, Corian® delivered a contemporary finish to the design, and provides customers with a modern environment to enjoy the Battlesticks Bar harbour views.
